A man accused of shooting two Mifflin Township police officers last year has pleaded guilty to attempted murder.
The Franklin County Prosecutor's Office said in a release Monday that Daveonte Dixon also pleaded guilty Monday to five counts of felonious assault.
Dixon faces a minimum prison sentence of 30 years and a maximum of 99 and a half years. He will be sentenced at a later date.
In a statement, Franklin County Prosecutor Shayla Favor said, "Today’s plea is a step toward accountability. Mr. Dixon’s days-long violent crime spree against members of law enforcement was reprehensible. The men and women who put on a badge to serve this community deserve to go home to their families. His actions endangered their lives and jeopardized the safety of Mifflin Township residents. I am grateful the injured officers have recovered, and had a voice in the resolution.”
The shooting happened on May 28, 2025, during an attempted traffic stop near the intersection of Perdue Avenue and Mecca Road in Mifflin Township. The area is north of Agler Road and east of Westerville Road.
During the stop, Dixon, who was a passenger in the vehicle, got out and began running away. As the two officers followed him, Dixon pulled out a gun and fired shots, hitting both officers before Dixon fled. The two officers who were shot were hospitalized and eventually released.
Authorities searched for Dixon for two days before he was located at an Obetz apartment.
Dixon fired shots from inside the apartment. Once the shots stopped, officers entered and found Dixon with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital for treatment. Once he was released, Dixon was taken to the Franklin County Jail, where he was held without bond.
A total of eight people were charged for helping Dixon evade arrest.
