Congresswoman Joyce Beatty is not the only politician to receive money from Leslie Wexner and his wife, Abigail, over the years. Their influence touches political races from Columbus City Council to the U.S. presidency.

More than 10,000 letters have been sent to the judges asking them to change the rules. Since 2025, Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents have arrested 18 people inside the courthouse.

The proposed laws would allow Columbus officials to do several things including secure public spaces, buildings and property from ICE enforcement actions not authorized by judicial warrants, manage information-sharing and partnerships with federal agencies and criminalize harassment at daycares and schools.

A letter from Westerville North High School Principal Kurt Yancey sent to parents said the school received "multiple reports of potential violence occurring at the event."
