A man who pleaded guilty to attempted murder after shooting two Mifflin Township police officers in May 2025 has been sentenced to prison.

Daveonte Dixon was sentenced Monday to spend between 67 and 72-and-a-half years in prison.

Dixon also pleaded guilty to five counts of felonious assault.

"I just take ownership. I can't change what I've done, but I can at least take ownership and acknowledge my wrong and I hope one day I can be seen as a different person," Dixon said during the sentencing hearing.

The shooting happened on May 28, 2025, during an attempted traffic stop near the intersection of Perdue Avenue and Mecca Road in Mifflin Township. The area is north of Agler Road and east of Westerville Road.

During the stop, Dixon, who was a passenger in the vehicle, got out and began running away. As the two officers followed him, Dixon pulled out a gun and fired shots, hitting both officers before Dixon fled. The two officers who were shot were hospitalized and eventually released.

Authorities searched for Dixon for two days before he was located at an Obetz apartment.

Dixon fired shots from inside the apartment. Once the shots stopped, officers entered and found Dixon with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital for treatment. Once he was released, Dixon was taken to the Franklin County Jail, where he was held without bond.

A total of eight people were charged for helping Dixon evade arrest.
