Feb 7 2024; Columbus, Ohio, USA; in the trial of Michael Jason Meade at the Franklin County Common Pleas Court.

The second murder trial of former Franklin County Sheriff's Deputy Jason Meade has been delayed once again.

Meade's lawyers and special prosecutors met Tuesday at a pre-trial hearing in the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas where Judge David Young decided to postpone the trial. Meade is charged with murder and reckless homicide for fatally shooting 23-year-old Casey Goodson Jr. in December 2020.

One of Meade's defense attorneys, Mark Collins, didn't comment on why the trial was pushed back again. Special prosecutors Gary Schroyer and Tim Merkle couldn't be immediately reached for comment.

Young declared a mistrial in February 2024 during Meade's first trial after jurors couldn't reach an unanimous decision.

Meade is one of several law enforcement officers in the last six years to be charged with murder. Jurors recently convicted former Columbus Police officer Adam Coy of murder and acquitted Blendon Township Police Officer Connor Grubb.

A new status conference is scheduled for Feb. 9.
