Franklin County Court of Common Pleas Judge David Young pushed back the trial again, scheduling a status conference for Feb. 9. Meade's first trial ended after Young declared a mistrial when jurors couldn't come to an unanimous decision.

Jason Meade's defense attorneys want his trial moved out of Franklin County. A motion before Judge David Young argues an impartial jury would be difficult to find in Franklin County.

Jury selection was set to begin on Oct. 31, but is now scheduled to begin on Feb. 27, 2025.

Franklin County Commissioners are expected to vote Tuesday on a $7 million settlement in the death of Casey Goodson Jr.

Prosecutors want to drop the charge for "purposeful" murder. The charge that would remain is for causing Casey Goodson Jr.'s death during a felonious assault.

If Jason Meade is retried, it won't be until after June. Special prosecutors and Meade's defense attorney Mark Collins agreed to hold a status conference June 6, according to Franklin County Common Pleas Court records.

Before the first mistrial was declared, Judge David Young said the jurors were asking a question on whether or not they can return a verdict of "yes" on one count that Meade was justified in shooting Casey Goodson Jr. in December 2020 and that he was not justified on another count.

The jury will continue deliberating Thursday to determine a verdict. Jason Meade is charged with two counts of murder and one count of reckless homicide in the Dec. 2020 shooting death of Casey Goodson Jr.
