After Jason Meade’s reckless homicide conviction and a mistrial on murder charges, Franklin County prosecutors are weighing a retrial. Meade remains in custody as officials evaluate next steps.

After deliberating for two days, the jury found Meade guilty reckless homicide for killing Casey Goodson Jr. in 2020. The judge declared a mistrial on a murder charge.

Franklin County Court of Common Pleas Judge David Young pushed back the trial again, scheduling a status conference for Feb. 9. Meade's first trial ended after Young declared a mistrial when jurors couldn't come to an unanimous decision.

Jason Meade's defense attorneys want his trial moved out of Franklin County. A motion before Judge David Young argues an impartial jury would be difficult to find in Franklin County.

Jury selection was set to begin on Oct. 31, but is now scheduled to begin on Feb. 27, 2025.

Franklin County Commissioners are expected to vote Tuesday on a $7 million settlement in the death of Casey Goodson Jr.
