Gag order issued in defamation lawsuit filed by former Mount Carmel doctor William Husel

A Franklin County judge has issued a gag order for lawyers involved in the case of former Mount Carmel Doctor William Husel and the hospital system he sued for defamation.

The civil trial is set for June 2.

Husel sued the Mount Carmel Health System, its parent company Trinity Health and former Mount Carmel CEO Edward Lamb.

That came after a Franklin County jury acquitted Husel in 2022 on 14 counts of murder for patient deaths prosecutors tried to tie to painkillers he prescribed.

Franklin County Common Pleas Judge Stephen McIntosh's journal entry prohibits parties involved with the case, their lawyers and witnesses from speaking to media.

The order also prohibits people from bringing signs, banners, buttons, placards or clothing with messages or photographs pertaining to the case or the involved parties.

The judge signed the entry Wednesday.
