Wade Winn changes his plea to guilty in Clermont County Court.

The man accused of shooting and killing a Clermont County Sheriff's Deputy in February pleaded guilty Monday to avoid the death penalty.

Wade Winn was charged with aggravated murder and attempted aggravated murder in the death of Deputy Bill Brewer and the wounding of another, Lt. Nick DeRose. Winn's attorney says serious mental health issues contributed to the incident when Winn first faked his own suicide.

However, he said his client was competent to stand trial and he wasn't going to enter an insanity plea, according to our news partner WCPO.

Clermont County Judge Anthony Brock sentenced Winn to life in prison without the possibility of parole. He also received 115 years in consecutive terms for the other charges.

WCPO also reportedthe courtroom was packed with the victims' families and Winn's own family. His mother sobbed as he answered to the charges. The victims' families declined the offer to make statements in court.

Winn's indictment also named six other deputies, Dep. Daniel Spears, Dep. Michael Ross, Detective Nicholas Crouch, Dep. Douglas Scott and Sgt. Michael White, whose lives were endangered.
