Cincinnati Hosts Federal Reserve's Policy Summit for First Time

The Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland is holding its biennial policy summit in Cincinnati for the first time. The event, June 19-21 at the Hilton Netherland Plaza hotel, will cover a wide array of topics related to urban growth, income inequality, segregation in housing and education, overall public sentiment about the economy, and will also feature a town hall.

But what exactly does the Federal Reserve do?

Most know that the agency is involved with setting interest rates and monetary policy, regulating financial institutions, and supplying banks with cash. But there is more to it.

The community development department located within three of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland’s district cities (Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and Cleveland) work to promote stable and sustainable communities, maintaining fair and impartial access to credit, and conducting research on trends and available data.

Joining Cincinnati Edition to discuss the Federal Reserve's role in our lives, and the agency's upcoming summit, is Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland Vice President and Community Affairs Officer Emily Garr Pacetti.
