Even on a rainy day you can see the splash of color added to a concrete wall in East Price Hill.
What began as a non-profit agency project 18 years ago on Warsaw near Elberon, is now finished and residents are prepared to celebrate Saturday, from 3:00 p.m. until 4:30 p.m..
As Price Hill Will's Laura Jekel spoke to WVXU in a parking lot across the street from the tiles, she explained that in 1998, Santa Maria Community Services created a mosaic at this very place, but the project was halted because the parking lot was going to be torn down. It never was and recently Price Hill Will got assurance from the new owner that they could finish the work.
Artist Lori Farr worked with a team of ArtWorks youth apprentices to collect kids drawings and help adults make mosaic tiles. There are now more than 40 tiles on the wall.
Now that "Tapestry: Community Woven Together Mosaic Wall" has come together, Jekel says, "It's beautiful, it's really colorful. Where we're sitting, in this empty lot, and there is a lot above it, so it's kind of a lot of concrete, and gray, and that just adds a beautiful burst of color to the main business district of East Price Hill."
