AAA Hosts Regional Drugged Driving Summit

Hamilton County Sheriff's Department

AAA will attempt to tackle what it calls one of the biggest threats to safety on the roadways Tuesday by holding a "Regional Drugged Driving Summit."

The goal is to raise awareness and deal with the problem, according to the auto club's spokeswoman Cheryl Parker.  "In fact, it's happening in the morning when parents are taking their kids to school, when people are driving to work and it's happening in the afternoon as people are leaving work."

Representatives from the AAA National Office, U.S. Department of Transportation/National Highway Safety Administration, the Governor's Highway Safety Association, the U.S. Attorney's office along with Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky law enforcement, prosecutors, judges, toxicologists and other stakeholders will discuss collaborative solutions to the growing problem that threatens the safety of motorists.

The Summit is June 14 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Blue Ash, 5901 Pfeiffer Road.

Parker says this is not an event just to get people together, there will be takeaways and marching orders.

A new AAA survey finds drivers in Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky now think drugged driving is a bigger problem than alcohol impaired driving.
