Two women in Florida and California have sued Macy's and Bloomingdale's, accusing the stores of deceptive pricing.
Kristin Haley and Sylvia Thompson allege the stores fabricated the original price to show large discounts.
Legal Newsline reports a class-action lawsuit was filed December 23rd in the Northern District of Florida, alleging violations of California's Consumer Legal Remedies Act, violations of Florida's Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act, false advertising and unfair, fraudulent and unlawful business practices.
According to the suit, thousands of consumers, including the plaintiffs, were victims of the defendants' deceptive pricing schemes. The plaintiffs and others in the class seek restitution, injunctive relief, interests, attorney fees, and other costs of the suit, together to exceed $5 million.
Macy's spokesman Jim Sluzewski says the Cincinnati-based company doesn't comment on litigation. Bloomingdale's is owned by Macy's.
