Some Central Ohio commuters are trading cars for buses and bikes amid high gas prices and warmer weather. Local riders and transportation officials report an uptick in sustainable travel as residents look to save money and avoid traffic.

The roughly half-mile, $9 million section of trail takes runners, walkers and bicyclists over the Olentangy River on bridges instead of neighborhood streets.

Now that the trail is open again, cyclists and runners won't have to take the detour that looped around Ohio Stadium.

Columbus is working to divert the Olentangy Trail off the roadways between Clinton Como Park and Northmoor Park and was recently awarded nearly $500,000 to use on the project.
