President Joe Biden on Tuesday the federal government will purchase half a billion, at-home rapid COVID-19 tests and mobilize 1,000 military medical personnel to help overburdened hospitals.

The moves come as the administration confronts surging COVID-19 infections and the new, highly-transmissible omicron variant.
