Impact Of COVID On Charitable Giving

Despite the economic turmoil, 2020 was a record-setting year for donations in the U.S. with Americans giving $471 billion dollars to charitable causes many were motivated by the unequal impacts of the pandemic and many more by calls for racial justice.

Donations track with larger economic forces and with continued uncertainty as the pandemic drags on, experts anticipate 2021 to be a down year. But in at least one local example that is not the case. The Columbus Foundation is on pace to exceed donations received compared to last year.

We check in with local charities to discuss the impact COVID has had on them and take a look at what is in store for the future.
