New research at Ohio State University could lead to better treatments for the number one cause of death in hospitals: sepsis.

Sepsis is the body’s extreme reaction to an infection that can quickly lead to tissue damage, organ failure, and death. The CDC says at least 1.7 million Americans are affected each year.
