Cuyahoga County’s interim sheriff could stay in that role for another year, despite not meeting the new qualifications for the position. An extension of Sgt. Cleveland City Council Shortens Proposed Delay On County's Plastic Bag Ban
Updated: 8:24 p.m. Dec. 2, 2019 The City of Cleveland will delay adoption of Cuyahoga County’s ban on retail plastic bags, but only by six months instead of the full year originally proposed. Under the amended city council legislation easily approved Monday night, a Cleveland working group will have until July 1, 2020, to propose possible citywide rules for disposable bags. That’s also when Cuyahoga County plans to begin collecting fines from retailers for giving out plastic bags to customers.

And while she says she likes living there — she finds her daughter's school effective, the commercial district walkable — there are some missing elements that could make life better. "Nicer housing," she says. "A lot of what's here is really old. And we could use a few more stores, because you can't get everything you need without walking or driving a long way."

Cleveland Police Headquarters To Leave Downtown For Opportunity Corridor
Cleveland’s police headquarters will move from Downtown to a new campus along the under-construction Opportunity Corridor road project in the Kinsman neighborhood. The Thursday announcement at a city council safety committee meeting offered clarity to the headquarters search for the first time since September 2018, when the city abruptly backed out of plans to use cleveland.com’s building at 1801 Superior Ave. “It will be the largest project that the city has done in decades,” interim Chief of Staff Sharon Dumas told council.

In Buckeye, Memorial Park Aims To Improve Police-Community Relations
At first, Wayne Owens was uncertain about the idea of a playground occupying the exact spot where his son, Cleveland Police Officer Derek Owens, was fatally shot in November 2008. “I said to myself, ‘Oh boy, I don't know’,” Wayne Owens says, remembering the day several years ago when the Cleveland Police Foundation and several neighborhood groups first approached him with the idea.

Mary Doria Russell Spotlights 'The Women Of The Copper Country'
After spending nearly a decade researching and writing about legendary gunfighter Doc Holliday in her books '"Doc" and "Epitaph," Lyndhurst author Mary Doria Russell now turns her attention to another larger than life character. In her new novel, "The Women of the Copper Country," Russell digs into the history of "Big Annie" Clements, the Michigan labor leader whose story has been lost to history. Cleveland's BoxSpot Retail Center: Where Shipping Meets Shopping
Amid countless sales at big box stores over the post-Thanksgiving shopping weekend, some of Cleveland's newest retailers will be offering their own deals — from decidedly smallerboxes. BoxSpot, at Kinsman Avenue and East 81st Street, is a collection of 10 shipping containers, painted yellow and gray and repurposed to hold seven independently owned stores. Tenants include everything from a candy shop to an eyeglass store. There's also an outdoor picnic and performance space with tables and benches.
