Lorain County Commissioners Stand By Decision To Revoke Nonprofit Aid
Lorain County Commissioners are pushing back against claims they revoked more than $4 million in CARES Act funding from local organizations. Commissioners voted 2-1 earlier this month to revoke some pandemic aid, including grants to support local health programs and small business development.

Shaker Heights Students Begin Return To On-site Learning
Shaker Heights schools began a staggered return to in-person learning Thursday after previously delaying plans due to backlash from teachers. The district will follow a concurrent on-site and remote model moving forward. Classes will be split and rotate either weeks or days of in-person learning, according to the district. Students at home will follow the same lessons.

U.K. Begins Nationwide Coronavirus Immunization, Largest In Nation's History
A 90-year-old woman from Coventry received the first vaccine shot as part of the United Kingdom's nationwide immunization campaign launched Tuesday.
The First COVID-19 Vaccine Has Arrived In Ohio
Updated: 11:15 a.m., Monday, Dec. 14, 2020 The first shipments of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine have arrived in Ohio, and Ohioans will begin getting vaccinated as soon as Monday morning. Trucks carrying the vaccines rolled into an area outside of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus around 9:30 a.m. Monday. “This really is the day we've been waiting for,” Gov. Mike DeWine said. “It starts the process of the end. We know the end is a long way off, but the end now is in sight.”

GCRTA Launches Website To Gather Public Input On System Redesign
The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) is collecting feedback on its proposed system redesign through a website launched this week. The website shows maps of current routes and proposed changes, giving visitors a chance to comment and suggest changes on the plan through the end, said Director of Service Management Joel Freilich,

Cleveland Tourism, On The Rise Before COVID-19, May Not Recover Until 2024
The number of visitors to Cleveland was on the rise in 2019, according to Destination Cleveland, bringing 19.6 million people to the area. But the coronavirus pandemic has likely put an end to almost a decade of growth in the local tourism industry. Cleveland visitors rose by more than 2 percent from 2018 to 2019, surpassing national tourism rate of 1.1 percent. Those visitors brought in more than $6 million dollars in direct sales, according to a Tuesday press release from Destination Cleveland, and had an overall economic impact of nearly $10 billion dollars.

Postcards From The Pandemic: Comfortable On Campus In Bay Village Schools
When the Bay Village City School District re-opened its schools for in-person classes Sept. 14 after starting the year virtually, 17-year-old Emma Spirollari, a senior at Bay High School, opted to return to campus. She didn’t mind remote learning, but she said, being back in the classroom feels more natural, despite the masks and plastic partitions around her desk.

University Of Akron Will Use Hybrid Learning Model For Fall Semester
The University of Akron will rely primarily on remote learning this fall semester, with limited in-person sessions and reduced class sizes. The university has offered training throughout the summer for faculty to prep for the transition, said interim Senior Vice Provost Joe Urgo. That includes recorded lectures and live presentations that will keep students engaged.
