Marines Nearing Baghdad Face Little Resistance
U.S. Marines close in on Baghdad from the southeast, as the Iraqi army continues to take large losses and thousands more soldiers surrender. U.S. troops see no signs of major resistance, but sporadic fighting by Iraqi paramilitary forces continues to erupt outside the city. NPR's Mike Shuster reports.

SARS Vaccine Could Take Years to Achieve
Scientists have made rapid gains in learning about the SARS virus. But some predict it could be years before there's a vaccine. The World Health Organization says 5,900 cases of severe acute respiratory syndrome have now been reported and that 212 victims have died. NPR's Joanne Silberner reports.

The U.N. Security Council overwhelmingly approves a resolution ending more than a decade of sanctions against Iraq. A British parliamentary committee concludes Prime Minister Tony Blair's government did not deliberately exaggerate Iraq's weapons capabilities to make its case for war. Former Iraqi Defense Minister Sultan Hashim Ahmed surrenders to U.S. military officers in Mosul following weeks of negotiations. The Department of Justice begins a formal investigation into an alleged leak from the Bush administration that exposed a CIA operative married to an outspoken critic of the White House's Iraq policy. Turkey Weighs Sending Troops to Iraq
The United States and Turkey are negotiating over the deployment of several thousand Turkish soldiers as peacekeepers in Iraq. Relations between the U.S. and Turkey soured when Ankara refused to let American forces use Turkish territory to launch the invasion of Iraq. Relief Agencies Adjust Aid Plans in Iraq
Increasingly sophisticated attacks by Iraqi insurgents cause relief agencies and private contractors to reassess their operations in the country. The International Red Cross, a target of Monday’s attacks, is considering reducing its staff. The United Nations has already reduced its presence, after being struck in an earlier bombing. NPR's Michele Kelemen reports.
