Cleveland Hostel To Offer Winter Shelter For City Homeless
The Cleveland Hostel is opening its doors as a seasonal homeless shelter this winter, as advocates look for socially distant ways to house people during the continuing coronavirus pandemic. Homeless service providers told Cleveland City Council on Monday they needed more space close to downtown that could handle a sudden influx of people seeking shelter. The hostel, on West 25th Street in the Ohio City neighborhood, fit the bill.

Wastewater Data Collection Shows COVID-19 Spike, Could Mean Future Surge
There’s been a spike in coronavirus fragments found in wastewater in the Cleveland area, which could mean a surge in COVID-19 cases is on the horizon for Northeast Ohio. Some Ohio sewer districts send wastewater samples to the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) and the Environmental Protection Agency so they can monitor for coronavirus genetic material in the water.

Kucinich Forms Fundraising Group For Cleveland Mayoral Race
The “Dennis!” yard signs aren’t back out quite yet, but former Rep. Dennis Kucinich has taken a step toward a Cleveland mayoral bid. Kucinich filed paperwork with the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections this past week to form the “Reelect Mayor Kucinich” campaign fundraising committee, according to Joe Tegreene, an attorney acting as treasurer for the committee. That’s reelection to the job he held 41 years ago.

What Should You Do If Your Ballot May Have Been Lost In The Mail?
In the lead up to next month’s election, ideastream is answering your questions about voting. Lacey from Columbus asked what happens if your ballot seems to have been lost in the mail. According to Portage County Board of Elections Deputy Director Terry Nielsen, if a voter calls into the board to report a missing ballot, the board can mark an already mailed absentee ballot as void and send a new one.

Cleveland officials used a Monday press conference to encourage protestors to be peaceful – and assure residents that protests will be kept under control – ahead of Tuesday’s presidential debate. The city hosting the first debate between President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden at the Cleveland Clinic Tuesday evening.

Caravana To Spread Word Of Low-Cost Internet Parades Through Clark-Fulton
The loud music from a Clark-Fulton caravana got Marissa Sortoresi dancing – despite any negative opinions from her son. "My son didn't like it too much. He was a little embarrassed," Sortoresi said. A caravana is a parade of cars with music and loudspeakers. It’s a common tradition in many Latinx communities. And this caravana did exactly what it was meant to do: It got people’s attention.

Cleveland Among Transit Systems Nationwide Pressing For More Federal Aid
Congress is considering a COVID relief bill that would include about $16 billion in aid for public transit. Agencies from around the country, including Cleveland, say they need twice that amount, at least.
Citations For Passing Stopped Mentor School Buses Up 900% With Cameras
Updated: 4:05 p.m., Dec. 2, 2019 Since attaching cameras to school buses earlier this year, Mentor police have issued 10 times the number of citations for drivers passing stopped buses. Before the cameras, Mentor police relied on bus drivers to report drivers who passed them, said Capt. Michael Majernik. But bus drivers are busy focusing on the kids, he said, and the cameras provide more concrete evidence.
