Worthington City Schools and Olentangy Local Schools have canceled their Flock Safety contracts.
Worthington Superintendent Trent Bowers released a statement Tuesday morning announcing the district was ending its contract with Flock early. The district first installed the cameras in 2024 and signed a two-year contract in March 2025.
“I have come to believe that the limited benefits we receive from these cameras are not worth the potential loss of public trust in our schools,” read Bowers' statement. “Because of that, I believe it is in our best interest to cancel our contract and remove the devices.”
According to the statement, the cameras were mainly funded by an Ohio School Safety Grant. Flock cameras were located at the main entrances and exits of Thomas Worthington High School, Worthington Kilbourne High School, Linworth Experiential Program and the Worthington Academy.
In the statement, Bowers clarified that the early cancellation of the contract will not cost the district any additional money and the cameras never shared data outside of the district.
A spokesperson from Olentangy Local Schools confirmed the district quietly canceled its Flock contract sometime during the summer, and said the cameras are set to be removed soon, but did not offer any additional information or further statement.
