The Columbus Board of Education is considering eliminating up to 445 jobs as it works to slash $50 million from its budget amid state and federal budget cuts.

Superintendent Angela Chapman made the recommendation at a joint committee meeting of the board Thursday night.

The board is already considering cutting busing for high-school students and said last month it might be closing four more school buildings.

So far more than $61 million in potential cuts have been identified. The board plans to take final action in December.

In the meantime, board members Jennifer Adair, Michael Cole and Christina Vera will hold three listening sessions with the public:

  • Nov. 15, 10:30 a.m. — 1 p.m. at the Columbus Metropolitan Library Main Library, 96 S. Grant Ave.
  • Nov. 18, 5 — 6 p.m. at the school district's main office, 3700 S. High St.
  • Nov. 19, 6 p.m. via Zoom
