President Donald Trump and U.S. Sen. Bernie Moreno of Ohio Intel's CEO Lip-Bu Tan to resign after a report Wednesday called into question Tan's ties to the Chinese government.
“The CEO of INTEL is highly CONFLICTED and must resign, immediately. There is no other solution to this problem,” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Thursday.
On X, Moreno wrote "It's pretty obvious that Intel has failed to meet the commitments it made to the people of Ohio. Now we find out its new CEO is deeply conflicted with ties to the CCP (Chinese Communist Party). The CEO must immediately resign, the project completed, and a fraud investigation should be initiated by Ohio."
The news agency Reuters reported Wednesday that Republican U.S. Senator Tom Cotton of Arkansas sent a letter to Intel's board chair with questions about Intel's new CEO's ties to Chinese firms.
The letter also includes questions about a recent criminal case involving Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan's former company.
The letter asks Intel chairman Frank Yeary whether the company's board was aware of the subpoenas sent to Cadence Design during Tan's time there before Intel hired Tan as CEO.
Cotton also asked whether Intel's board required Tan to divest from Chinese chip firm linked to the military there or Chinese Communist Party.
Tan recently said that Intel was slowing construction on its two chip plants in New Albany in Licking County, $ 28 billion project.
