A bill that would outlaw abortion in Ohio if or when the U.S. Supreme Court overturns Roe vs. Wade will be heard by an Ohio House committee on Wednesday.
This bill being considered would make abortion a crime with prison time and fines for medical personnel but does make exceptions for a woman’s life or health, and wouldn’t penalize patients.
The bill is getting its first hearing as the U.S. Supreme Court is expected to rule later this summer on a Mississippi case that many court observers think could be used as a vehicle to overturn Roe vs. Wade.
It is believed court justices appointed during the Trump administration have turned the court’s balance to the right, giving anti-abortion backers hope the issue will be handed back to the states.
