Stories For The Ages: Friends, Loves And Losses

Stories for the Ages - WOSU Public Media

The debut episode of the Stories for the Ages podcast celebrates the friendships and relationship possibilities that come with aging.

An expert and an active octogenarian shares the stories and principles for creating and maintaining relationships that matter in the elder years.

No time is better for harvesting love that has been sown in earlier commitments, love that has led to grandchildren and friendships old and new—as many new friendships can be discovered through the richness of a long life.

An 87-year-old life coach and psychologist Pat Adson discusses the importance of not just being a “cheerleader” or asking people what they still can do, but asking what they want to do!

She discusses embracing the freedom of a new way of life, and learning how to embrace the fond memories of loved ones gone before us in a healthy way. We take an honest look at the losses that must be managed and the relationships that can be maintained and integrated into a long, happy and balanced aging experience.

We also speak with Dr. Thomas Cole, director of the McGovern Center for Humanities and Ethics at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, on how longevity is linked to friendship and community.
