Columbus police have released the name of a man shot and killed by officers late Tuesday night on the city's near east side.

The man was 33-year-old Isawan Foster, Columbus police said in a release.

The shooting happened just before midnight in the 800 block of Wilson Avenue, east of Nationwide Children's Hospital.

Police say officers were approaching an apartment building when they heard shots fired. The officers then encountered Foster, who authorities say was holding a gun and firing shots at the building as he came out of a doorway.

Two officers then fired their weapons, hitting Foster. The officers then gave Foster first aid.

Foster was taken to Grant Medical Center, where he died.

A second man, who police have identified as 32-year-old Brandon Wade, was arrested at the scene and charged with domestic violence and assault.

Columbus police have not released the names of the two officers who shot Foster, but have said one of the officers has worked for the department for six years. The second officer has been with Columbus police for two years.

The shooting is being investigated by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

Additional details and videos of the incident are expected to be released by Columbus police in the coming days.
