Former Ohio State football player Kirk Barton has been charged with aggravated vehicular homicide following a fatal crash on June 21, 2025 in Dublin.

Former Ohio State football player Kirk Barton was sentenced Wednesday to at least five years in prison for a fatal crash in Dublin last year.

Barton, of Lewis Center, pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated vehicular homicide in a Franklin County court. Another charge of aggravated vehicular homicide and two counts of driving a vehicle while impaired were dropped.

Dublin Police said Barton was driving the wrong way on Route 33 in the early morning hours of June 21. Barton turned around and headed east toward historic Dublin.

Barton's pickup truck hit a car driven by Ethan Perry of Columbus. Perry died from his injuries.

Barton's truck finally stopped about 900 feet from the crash.

A Franklin County Prosecutor's Office spokeswoman said Barton was sentenced to 5 to 7 1/2 years.

Barton was a lineman for the Ohio State Buckeyes from 2003 to 2007.
