Former Ohio State football player Kirk Barton has been charged with aggravated vehicular homicide following a fatal crash on June 21, 2025 in Dublin.

Former Ohio State football player Kirk Barton pleaded not guilty Monday to a charge of aggravated vehicular homicide following a fatal crash early Saturday morning in Dublin.

Court records said Barton, 40, of Lewis Center, was driving the wrong way on the Route 33 freeway just before 3 a.m. Saturday.

Authorities said Barton turned around and traveled in the correct direction eastbound on Route 33.

Officials say Barton's pickup truck was speeding when it crashed into a Lexus driven by 24-year-old Ethan Perry on West Bridge Street near Franklin Street. Perry died following the crash.

Barton and the pickup truck stopped 900 feet east of the crash site.

Dublin Police said Barton admitted to drinking alcohol before the crash. Officers said Barton had glassy, bloodshot eyes and a blank stare. They also said Barton's speech was slurred and that he had alcohol on his breath.

Records said Barton was unable to answer basic questions about the evening and the crash. He was taken to the Franklin County Jail.

A Franklin County Municipal Court judge set Barton's bond at $500,000. He faces a preliminary hearing on July 1.

Barton was an offensive lineman for Ohio State's football team from 2003-2007.
