Preble County sheriff deputy, second person killed in two-vehicle crash

A Preble County deputy sheriff was killed in a two-vehicle crash early Monday morning.

Deputy Joshua Hamilton, died in the crash, which happened just after 4 a.m. on State Route 503, according to a press release from Ohio Attorney General David Yost's office.

Hamilton was taken to Kettering Preble Hospital in Eaton, where he was pronounced dead. Officials said the driver of the second vehicle also died in the crash. That person's name has not been released.

Hamilton began working for the Preble County Sheriff's Office in May 2022. He was also serving in the United States Army National Guard.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Yost released the following statement, "Deputy Hamilton dedicated his life to serving his community. He will be rightfully remembered as hero. My heart breaks for all who mourn today, and I pray for comfort for this community and the Preble County Sheriff’s Office.”
