Hilliard Police investigating death of infant found inside vehicle

Police lights at night

Hilliard Police are investigating the death of an infant found inside a vehicle Wednesday morning.

Officers went to a home in the 4400 block of Paxton Drive South just after 8:50 a.m.

Hilliard police say when medics arrived, they found evidence that a child was recently born. Officers searched the area and found the child in a vehicle that was parked in the backyard of the residence.

The baby was pronounced dead after being taken to Nationwide Children's Hospital.

Hilliard Police Chief Michael Woods said, "This is a heartbreaking situation and one of the worst calls to receive. We're focused on determining what happened to this child."

An autopsy will be performed to determine the child's exact cause of death.

Police say a woman who is believed to be the child's mother was taken to a local hospital.

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Hilliard Police at (614) 876-7321.
