Columbus Board of Education President Jennifer Adair appeared on All Sides with Ann Fisher on Thursday, Aug. 11, 2022.

It could be back to the bargaining table this week for negotiators with the Columbus Board of Education and the Columbus Education Association (CEA), which represents teachers.

An email today from the Columbus Board of Education President Jennifer Adair said that their team has requested the federal mediator contact CEA to set up two negotiation sessions this week.

"We will swiftly and thoroughly review any comprehensive proposal from CEA and will be responsive and engaged in respectful bargaining,” Adair. said

The two sides met for several hours last Wednesday but were unable to agree on a new contract. The next day, the teachers' union filed a notice that they intend to strike and picket on August 22 if they don't reach a new contract agreement with Columbus City Schools.

The district intends to start school on August 24 even if the teachers go on strike. The alternative opening plans include remote learning with substitute teachers as instructors.

WOSU reached out to CEA for comment.
