Columbus Police Vow To Catch 'Monsters' Who Killed Two Children

Two children and a young man are dead after a Tuesday night shooting on Columbus' southeast side.

Police said officers responded around 6:16 p.m. after reports of shots fired at an apartment complex on Kodiak Drive, near Canal Winchester. All three people killed were found inside a car.

Columbus Police officers found Charles Wade, 22, Demitrius Wall'neal, 9, Londynn Wall'neal, 6, inside the car.

Police said the three were sitting in the car when two armed suspects approached it and began firing without any warning. The suspects left the scene in a vehicle driven by a third person, police said.

Columbus Assistant Police Chief LaShanna Potts said police will catch "the monsters" who killed them.

"There’s a mother now who will have to go on with her life with two young babies that she no longer gets to raise. They don’t get to get married. They don’t get to go to school,” Potts said.

Potts also used a press conference at the scene of the shootings to once again call for end to gun violence.

"I speak for the division and the officers who have to go on these runs day in and day out: it’s getting tiresome. We need the community to help us. This gun violence has got to stop," Potts said.

The killings add to what's already been a record year for homicides in Columbus. The Tuesdays slayings mean there have been at least 186 homicides in the city this year, breaking the record of 177 set last year.
