Kroger and Giant Eagle have joined other stores in following Gov. Mike DeWine’s order to limit the number of customers shopping in retail stores at a given time to stop the spread of COVID-19.
Both Kroger and Giant Eagle say they will limit customers to 50% of the building capacity at any time.
Giant Eagle will post the number of shoppers allowed in a store outside each location, spokeswoman Jannah Jablonowski says. Workers will also monitor social distancing so customers maintain enough seperation while shopping.
“While it can seem alarming at first, I think it’s a really positive thing to see that everybody is taking this really seriously,” Jablonowski says. “And our guests should really think of it as a reassuring step.”
Kroger will use a monitoring technology which counts the number of people entering and exiting stores.
Both companies also say they will be providing their employees with masks when they become available.
Giant Eagle is also installing plexiglass barriers at checkouts to protect both cashiers and customers from the spread of coronavirus.
