Facebook used the grand opening of a New Albany data center to announce plans for more investment at the 345-acre campus.
The social media giant broke ground on the facility south of State Route 161 and east of Beech Road in August of 2017. It went online Thursday.
“From the beginning, we have been committed to being an active part of the community and investing in its long term vitality,” a press release says. “As part of that commitment, we are partnering with the Licking Heights School District to strengthen STEAM (science, technology, engineering, the arts and math) programming in local schools.”
Speaking at the data center opening, Gov. Mike DeWine called the new buildings “good news for our construction workers, our trades men and women who built this magnificent building, and they are going to be doing more work.”
The data center tracking website Baxtel says the New Albany locations is one of 10 existing or planned Facebook data centers in the U.S. and Europe.
Google broke ground a New Albany data center last year. Amazon also operates a data center in New Albany, as well as others in Hilliard and Dublin.
