Columbus Police say an officer is expected to recover after being shot on the city's East Side on Thursday night.

Police say officer William Frease, an 11 year veteran of the Columbus Police, was shot while on duty. Frease is a patrol officer but last night was working in plainclothes when he was shot near 2342 Hamilton Road. The suspect fled the area following the shooting.

The injured officer met up with other officers near East Hudson Street and McGuffey Avenue in the Linden area and was able to provide a description of the suspect and the suspect vehicle. Police say ShotSpotter technology helped them locate the scene.

Three people were taken into custody a short time later near the East Broad Street and Yearling Road by Whitehall Police.

The officer was transported to Ohio State University's Main Hospital in stable condition.
