Gov. John Kasich is joining the chorus of voices opposing a Trump administration immigration policy separating immigrant families at the United States border. Speaking on MSNBC on Monday, Kasich blasted the practice.

“Think about this,” Kasich said. “Think about the fact that in our country, children, young children are being separated from their mothers and fathers. Could you imagine the terrifying effect on these kids?”

Last Friday, Kasich posted a video to his Twitter account calling for an end to the policy.

“Let’s get it right,” Kasich said. “We’re America. We have a big heart. We love people, and at the end of the day, we don’t want to create an image that we don’t care, because we really do.”

Numerous Ohio lawmakers, including Sens. Sherrod Brown and Rob Portman, have also voiced concerns with the policy.

“We want to be sure that the law is properly carried out,” Portman said, "and I don’t think that includes families being separated with the exceptions of cases where there is an additional serious crime.”

In a tweet on Tuesday, Portman released a statement saying the Trump administration should use executive authority to "keep families together and expedite their cases," otherwise Congress should act on a legislative solution.

Brown calledthe separations “morally reprehensible” and called on Trump to “immediately reverse this inhuman policy.”
