The Columbus School Board has laid out a roadmap for their superintendent search with an eye toward a mid-year start for the district’s next leader.

The board is aiming for a new superintendent to be in place by January 1 next year. That start date comes at the recommendation of the board’s search firm, and members are leaving the door open for an earlier start date if their eventual winner is ready sooner.

The group blocked out two weeks in September for interviews. The search firm will present candidates on September 5, and the first round of interviews will take place from September 11-13. Board members plan to narrow their list down to finalists on the 13th.

Second round interviews are set for the following week, on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.  That round will include district visits with finalists showing face at different schools in the city.

If everything goes to plan, district lawyers will hammer out a contract in October.
