Under the Lady Buckeyes banner, Ohio State sent pilots on Thursday to compete for the first time in an all-women cross-country airplane race.
Three Ohio State University aviation students are flying in the 41st Air Race Classic, the oldest airplane race of its kind in the United States. Beginning in Frederick, Maryland, the race features 50 teams with more than 120 women pilots.
According to Ohio State team captain Natalie Higdon, the race's goal to test the students’ skills. Pilots Aly Bond and Josie Cotugno round out the Ohio State team.

The teams will cover a 2,600 mile course over the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains to the far northern area of the continental U.S. to the high desert of New Mexico.
At each stop, teams will execute high-speed flybys over a timing line as they race against the clock. The arrival deadline is Friday.
