A lawsuit filed by a Denver based company charges that Dublin City Schools violated Ohio law in its attempt to purchase a vacant building owned by the company.
Emerald Parkway Valley Equity Group says Dublin City Schools have no legal claim to the former Verizon building at 5175 Emerald Parkway. The company bought the property at auction earlier this year.
Officials say since then, the school district has threatened to take over the building through eminent domain and has scared away any major corporate tenants from moving in.
Emerald Parkway Valley Equity Group co-owner Andrew Ward says the school district wants to buy the property at a lower price.
The company wants the court to find Dublin City schools in violation of its rights to due process and Ohio's eminent domain rules.
Dublin school officials reportedly said this summer that their offer to purchase the building was more than what Emerald Parkway paid. They say they would use the building as a non traditional high school.
