Columbus voters have chosen to raise their property taxes in order to fund a backlog of maintenance projects and an expansion of operations in Columbus City Schools.
Voters yesterday approved the new levy by a 62 to 38 percent margin. The tax levy will add about $240 in annual property taxes for every $100,000 of home value.
"We say thank you for having confidence in us, and supporting us," Superintendent Dan Good said to voters after the race was called Tuesday night.
The levy will raise $50 million a year for district operations, including about 325 new staff members.
