Former Columbus Schools Superintendent Joe Davis Dies

Joe Davis, superintendent of Columbus public schools from 1977 to 1982

Columbus City Schools reported Thursday that former superintendent Joe Davis has died. Davis led the schools from 1977 until 1982 during court ordered school desegregation.

During Davis' leadership, school enrollment reached as high as 83,000 students.

After his retirement from the school system, Davis founded the National Academy for Superintendents at Ohio State University.

He was also on the Board of Directors of WOSU Public Media.
