The first day of a new school year for Columbus students was also the debut of two brand new Columbus City Schools facilities, one for the Spanish immersion academy, and another for the French immersion academy.
Together, the two buildings cost $32 million.
At the Ecole Kenwood French Immersion Academy, big windows let in plenty of natural light and the walls are lined with flat screen monitors. Principle Emma Corbin says they're used for their blended learning software where students can video chat with experts and do research online.
"You don't just read about something in a book," Corbin said. "You can really quickly get there or see something, or talk to someone who's an expert in that area. And that really is what the future holds for our kids."

This is one of the latest buildings from the district's new rebuilding plan. The final project, a new campus for the Afrocentric school, is scheduled to be complete in early 2017.
