Flood relief is flowing to West Virginia and a Central Ohio church is doing what it can to assist victims who've lost their belongings or have damaged homes.
Fairfield County's Victory Hill Church is collecting donations this week for flood victims. Youth Pastor Christopher White said the church has seen support from local residents and businesses.
"Individuals have been flooding in all morning. We've had phone calls and donations dropped off, so it's awesome to see the community getting behind this project," White said. "I think people are excited about getting a chance to help those that are hurting and just trying to share some of the help we can give them."
West Virginia officials said 23 people died in the flooding last week. White said donations, which can include toiletries, blankets, children's games and certain non-perishable foods.
"Our hope is really that we can just bring light to a dark situation," White said. "In their time of need they're struggle and hurting, we just want them to feel love and know that we're there to try to bring some hope to their situation."
Donations can be dropped off at the church from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. through Friday. All collected items will be delivered Saturday.
