Overnight Storms Flood Homes In North Columbus

American Electric Power said thousands of homes were still without power Thursday afternoon after heavy storms rolled through the region about 12 hours earlier. Several homes in north Columbus also suffered flood damage.

Edgecliff Drive sits along the Olentangy River, just north of Interstate 270. Resident John Janning says flood waters reached the front door of home early Thursday morning.

“My whole backyard was flooded… what did they say this hasn't happed here since 2001,” said Jsnning.

Photos taken around 7 a.m. show cars submerged in water.

Janning’s next-door neighbor had to be evacuated by the fire department in a boat.

Janning says he ran out of his home after another neighbor, Susan Heath, woke him up.

Heath says she was getting ready for work when she noticed the flooding and decided to warn others on her block.

“I looked out like I always do and looked out and my neighbor's house was surrounded by water. So I started waking everybody up,” says Heath.

No injuries were reported, but several neighbors still have water in their houses Thursday afternoon. The Red Cross has offered financial assistance for those who can't return home today.
