Thirteen months after voters overwhelmingly rejected a proposed tax increase to fund the Columbus Zoo, zoo boards members have voted to go back to voters.
The zoo board on Wednesday approved a 10-year levy request for the fall ballot. But unlike the levy that lost badly at the polls last year, the next proposal would not increase taxes.
The current zoo levy expires at the end of the year. The levy going before voters in November would continue current property tax rates of $21 per year for every $100,000 of home value.
The renewal levy would not fund any additional zoo locations, which was a major part of the failed levy.
The zoo reported record attendance of nearly 3 million people last year.
