A woman in Madison County accused of giving birth and disposing of the child in a garbage can in 2023 pleaded guilty to one count of gross abuse of a corpse.

Anuradha Manukonda, 27, pleaded guilty to the felony on Aug. 14 in Madison County Common Pleas Court.

Garbage workers found the infant girl’s body in the back of a garbage truck in a residential area, south of Plain City, in June 2023. Manukonda was arrested in April 2025 after DNA testing confirmed she was the child's mother.

At a press conference announcing the indictment and arrest of Manukonda, Plain City Police Chief Dale McKee said medical examiners could not determine the cause of death of the infant due to extensive injuries caused by the garbage truck compactor and delay in discovery. McKee added that there is no evidence that the death was a homicide.

Following the discovery of the girl’s remains, community members in Plain City named her “Madison Baby Doe.” The community also gathered to give her a funeral and grave marker.

Manukonda is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 2.
