A community non-profit is purchasing the Glen Helen Nature Preserve from Antioch College.
The Glen Helen — a thousand-square-acre nature preserve in Yellow Springs — will soon be taken over by a community nonprofit. The Glen Helen Association will assume ownership of the Glen when a deal with Antioch College is finalized later this summer. The College has owned the Glen since 1929.
“It [the transfer] will allow us to really focus our time, energy, and resources on strengthening the educational aspects of what we do, both as a small liberal arts college and as a college that is deeply devoted to environmental sustainability,” says Antioch College President Tom Manley.
Antioch will receive $2.5 million dollars from the Glen Helen Association, to be paid over ten years. The Glen, also includes The Yellow Springs, a bird rehabilitation center, and camps for school kids. Currently, the Glen remains closed. However, the Glen Helen Association says they will soon announce plans for re-opening.
