Two political newcomers are challenging long-time incumbents for seats in the Ohio House this fall.
Democrat Kim McCarthy is challenging Incumbent Rick Perales, who has represented the 73rd District since 2003. McCarthy, an accountant from Xenia, has picked up endorsements from high profile groups including Wright State University’s Faculty Union and Planned Parenthood Advocates of Ohio. In contrast, Incumbent Rick Perales has been endorsed by Ohio Right to Life and the Buckeye Firearms association, among other groups. During his time in office, he’s focused on military and veterans' issues.
Another newcomer, Democrat Anne Gorman, is facing incumbent Bill Dean in the race for House District 74. Gorman, a retired teacher, has made education reform and healthcare access the focus of her campaign. Bill Dean, a retired Plumber, was appointed to the Ohio House in April 2016. Since then, he’s sponsored bills related to workforce development.
