Two candidates with ties to Dayton Public Schools are on the ballot this fall.
Democrat and Dayton School Board Vice President John McManus is vying for a seat in the Ohio House. He’s challenging Republican incumbent Jim Butler.
McManus was elected to the Dayton School Board while in law school at the University of Dayton. Now an employee at Franklin County Clerk of Courts’ office, McManus has made school funding reform a priority during his campaign. Butler, a graduate of United States Naval Academy, says he’s focused on advocating for the military and veterans. He’s served as the 41st District’s representative since 2011.
The district, which went red in the last two presidential elections, includes Kettering, Oakwood, and parts of Riverside and Dayton.
The 5th District Ohio Senate race also includes a candidate with connections to Dayton Public Schools. Democrat Paul Bradley, a former candidate for the Dayton School Board, is now challenging Republican Steve Huffman.
Bradley, an administrator at Antioch University, says he supports expansion of addiction treatment options. Huffman, a physician, currently serves in the Ohio House. During his time in the Statehouse, he’s sponsored several bills related to healthcare. The 5th District, which also leans red, includes Trotwood, Harrison Township, and most of the city of Dayton.
