A Dayton women’s rights group plans to protest President-Elect Donald Trump’s inauguration on Saturday. The downtown Dayton “sister march” was organized to coincide with the “Women’s March on Washington”, which is expected to attract more than 200,000 people.
Organizers from the Dayton Women’s Rights Alliance say they decided to plan the protest after hearing that many Dayton women weren't able to make the trip to Washington.
Joy Schwab, of the Women’s Rights Alliance, thought maybe 200 people would attend the Dayton march. Now, she’s expecting more than double that number.“I’m amazed at the response that we’ve gotten from a lot of people who have never rallied before. We’re getting emails like 'do I need to register for the rally' and 'should I bring a sign' and 'I’ve never done this before' – the response has just been overwhelming.”
Schwab says the protest is meant to call attention to how some of Donald Trump’s campaign proposals may affect women in the Miami Valley. Speakers will include representatives from The League of Women Voters, Planned Parenthood, and the NAACP.
The March will be held at Courthouse Square in Dayton this Saturday at 1 p.m.
