Presidential candidate Donald Trump was in Springfield Thursday. He spoke before a crowd of about 5,000 at the Champions Center Expo.
In his speech, Trump called for a change of leadership in Washington, saying "this election is for the heart and soul of America.”
If elected, the candidate promised to repeal and replace Obamacare. Trump told the crowd, "In Ohio, another 5 companies are dropping out of Obamacare. Good luck in negotiations folks. That means that all the residents will be getting cancelation notices very soon."
He went on to say, "Repealing Obamacare is one of the single most important reasons we must win on novmeber 8th"
Trump also said he would renegotiate the NAFTA trade agreement and oversee what he called the “the biggest tax cut [for Americans] since Ronald Reagan.”
After the rally, Trump supporter Chris Burcham from Kettering, OH, says he plans to vote for Trump. The retired Chrysler auto worker says he particularly appreciates Trump’s anti-abortion stance.
“As a Christian, we need a good man in there who is not afraid to stand up for his beliefs. We need to put god back in our country,” Burcham says.
Eddie Noble from the Urbana area has been traveling around the country with his Trump motorcycle. He likes Trump as a fellow businessman.
“Yes, he is a businessman and I respect him for that," he says. "I think he is one that can get our country set forth back on the right track.”
The presidential candidates and their surrogates are expected to continue stumping in battleground states like Ohio, where early voting is underway.
Nearly 34,000 people have already voted in Montgomery County and more than 344,000 absentee ballots have been cast statewide.
